Tier-I (Computer-Based Examination)

Tier-II (Descriptive Paper)

Essay Writing:

Letter/Application Writing:

  • Formal and informal letters, applications, complaints, etc.
  • The paper can be written in English or Hindi.

Tier-III (Skill Test/Typing Test)

Skill Test for Data Entry Operator (DEO):

Data Entry Speed Test (DEST):

  • Candidates are required to have a data entry speed of 8,000 key depressions per hour on the computer.
  • The skill test will be of qualifying nature. The test duration is 15 minutes, and candidates will be provided with a printed matter in English, which they need to type on the computer.
  • The test assesses the candidate’s typing speed and accuracy.

Note:

  • Exemptions: Some candidates may be exempt from the DEST if they fall under certain categories (like being physically handicapped).
  • Typing Test: For other posts like LDC (Lower Division Clerk) and JSA (Junior Secretariat Assistant), a typing test is conducted instead of DEST.

The SSC CHSL exam tests the fundamental skills required for the job roles, with each tier focusing on specific aspects of the candidates’ abilities. The Tier-III (Skill Test/Typing Test) is crucial for Data Entry Operators as it directly tests the practical skills needed for the job.
