The Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) Haryana Civil Services (HCS) & Other Allied Services Exam is conducted in three stages: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and Personality Test/Interview. Here’s the comprehensive syllabus for each stage:

Preliminary Examination

The Preliminary Examination consists of two papers:

Paper I: General Studies

Current Affairs:

  • Events of national and international importance.

History of India:

  • Ancient, Medieval, and Modern History, focusing on the Indian National Movement.

Indian and World Geography:

  • Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.

Indian Polity and Governance:

  • Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.

Economic and Social Development:

  • Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.

Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity, and Climate Change:

  • General issues, including those that do not require subject specialization.

General Science:

  • Questions on basic science concepts and their application in daily life.

Paper II: Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT)

Comprehension:

  • Understanding and interpreting written material.
  • Interpersonal Skills including Communication Skills
  • Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability
  • Decision Making and Problem Solving
  • General Mental Ability

Basic Numeracy:

  • Numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc. (Class X level).

Data Interpretation:

  • Charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency, etc. (Class X level).

English Language Comprehension Skills:

  • (Class X level).

The Main Examination consists of the following papers:

Paper V: Optional Subject

Candidates have to choose one optional subject from a list provided by HPSC. The syllabus will be based on the subject selected. Common options include History, Geography, Public Administration, Sociology, and others.

Personality Test/Interview

The interview assesses the candidate’s personality traits, including mental alertness, critical powers of assimilation, clear and logical exposition, balance of judgment, variety, and depth of interest, leadership qualities, and intellectual and moral integrity.
