RBI Assistant Syllabus
The syllabus for the RBI Assistant exam is structured to assess candidates’ knowledge and skills across several key areas. The exam is divided into three phases:
- Phase 1: Preliminary Exam
- Phase 2: Main Exam
- Phase 3: Language Proficiency Test (LPT)

Phase 1: Preliminary Exam
The Preliminary Exam consists of three sections:
English Language
- Reading Comprehension: Understanding and interpreting passages.
- Grammar: Sentence correction, error spotting, and fill-in-the-blanks.
- Vocabulary: Synonyms, antonyms, and contextual meaning.
- Cloze Test: Filling in the blanks in passages.
Numerical Ability
- Data Interpretation: Tables, graphs, and charts.
- Arithmetic: Percentages, ratios and proportions, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, time and work, and speed and distance.
- Number Systems: Basic arithmetic operations, HCF, LCM, and number series.
- Algebra: Basic algebraic equations and inequalities.
Reasoning Ability
- Verbal Reasoning: Analogies, syllogisms, blood relations, and direction sense.
- Non-Verbal Reasoning: Series, patterns, and analogy.
- Puzzles: Arrangement, scheduling, and logical puzzles.
- Coding-Decoding: Encoding and decoding of words and numbers.
Phase 2: Main Exam
The Main Exam consists of four sections:
English Language
- Reading Comprehension: Detailed understanding of passages.
- Grammar: Sentence correction, error spotting, and fill-in-the-blanks.
- Vocabulary: Synonyms, antonyms, and contextual usage.
- Writing Skills: Essay writing, letter writing (formal/informal), and precis writing.
Quantitative Aptitude
- Data Interpretation: Advanced tables, graphs, and charts.
- Arithmetic: Percentages, ratios, profit and loss, time and work, and speed and distance.
- Algebra: Linear equations, quadratic equations.
- Geometry: Basic concepts of geometry including triangles, circles, and coordinate geometry.
- Number Systems: Advanced problems related to number theory and basic mathematics.
Reasoning Ability
- Verbal Reasoning: Advanced analogies, syllogisms, logical deduction.
- Non-Verbal Reasoning: Complex patterns and series.
- Puzzles: Complex arrangement, scheduling, and logical puzzles.
- Coding-Decoding: Advanced coding and decoding.
General Awareness
- Current Affairs: National and international events, sports, awards, and significant achievements.
- Banking Awareness: Banking terminology, functions of banks, RBI’s role, monetary policy, and recent developments in the banking sector.
- Economic and Financial Awareness: Basic concepts of the economy, financial institutions, and major economic indicators.
- Static GK: Geography, history, polity, and important landmarks of India.
Phase 3: Language Proficiency Test (LPT)
The LPT assesses the candidate’s proficiency in the official language of the state/UT for which they have applied. The test usually involves:
- Reading: Ability to read and understand passages in the official language.
- Writing: Writing skills in the official language.
- Speaking: Communication skills in the official language.
Note:
- The LPT is qualifying in nature and is conducted only if the candidate is selected for the Main Exam. The language for the LPT will be the language of the state/UT mentioned in the candidate’s application.

- Practice: Solve previous years’ papers and take mock tests to familiarize yourself with the exam format and improve speed and accuracy.
