Teachers Recruitment Board Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test Syllabus

The Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) is conducted by the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) of Tamil Nadu to assess the eligibility of candidates aspiring to become teachers for Classes I to VIII in the state. The TNTET consists of two papers:

  • Paper I: For candidates intending to teach Classes I to V.
  • Paper II: For candidates intending to teach Classes VI to VIII.

Candidates who intend to teach Classes I to VIII need to appear for both papers.

TNTET Exam Structure:

  1. Paper I: For Classes I to V (Primary Stage)
  2. Paper II: For Classes VI to VIII (Upper Primary Stage)

Both papers are objective-type with multiple-choice questions.

1. Paper I (Primary Stage) Structure:

  • Total Marks: 150
  • Duration: 2.5 hours
  • Number of Questions: 150
  • Question Type: Objective (MCQs)

Paper I Syllabus Breakdown:

Child Development and Pedagogy (30 Questions):

  • Child Development (Primary School Child): Understanding the characteristics and needs of diverse learners, interaction with learners, and the role of heredity and environment.
  • Concepts of Inclusive Education and Understanding Children with Special Needs: Addressing children from disadvantaged backgrounds, learning difficulties, and behavioral problems.
  • Learning and Pedagogy: How children think and learn, motivation, and learning strategies.

Language I – Tamil (30 Questions):

  • Language Comprehension: Reading passages, understanding, answering questions on comprehension, grammar, and language use.
  • Pedagogy of Language Development: Learning and acquisition, principles of language teaching, learning materials, and remedial teaching.

Language II – English (30 Questions):

  • Language Comprehension: Reading passages, questions on comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure.
  • Pedagogy of Language Development: Methods of language teaching, language skills, teaching-learning materials, and language assessment.

Mathematics (30 Questions):

  • Content: Number system, fractions, measurements, geometry, data handling, and algebraic thinking.
  • Pedagogical Issues: Methods of teaching mathematics, error analysis, diagnostic and remedial teaching, evaluation.

Environmental Studies (30 Questions):

  • Content: Family and friends, food, shelter, water, travel, and concepts of environmental science.
  • Pedagogical Issues: Concept and scope of EVS, integrated EVS, learning principles, and methods of teaching EVS.

2. Paper II (Upper Primary Stage) Structure:

  • Total Marks: 150
  • Duration: 2.5 hours
  • Number of Questions: 150
  • Question Type: Objective (MCQs)

Paper II Syllabus Breakdown:

Child Development and Pedagogy (30 Questions):

  • Child Development (Upper Primary Child): Understanding the learning and cognitive development stages, needs of diverse learners, interaction with learners.
  • Concepts of Inclusive Education and Understanding Children with Special Needs: Addressing learning difficulties, inclusive education, and educational needs of children with disabilities.
  • Learning and Pedagogy: Learning processes, thinking and reasoning, and motivation.

Language I – Tamil (30 Questions):

  • Language Comprehension: Reading passages, grammar, sentence structure, and vocabulary.
  • Pedagogy of Language Development: Acquisition, communication skills, methods of language teaching, assessment, and remedial measures.

Language II – English (30 Questions):

  • Language Comprehension: Reading comprehension, grammar usage, vocabulary.
  • Pedagogy of Language Development: Language acquisition, teaching-learning materials, evaluation of language skills.

Mathematics and Science (60 Questions) OR Social Studies/Social Science (60 Questions):

  • Mathematics and Science:
      • Mathematics Content: Number system, algebra, geometry, data handling, measurements, arithmetic.
      • Science Content: Food, materials, natural phenomena, the world of the living, moving things, and environmental science.
      • Pedagogical Issues in Mathematics and Science: Methods of teaching, concept understanding, assessment strategies, problem-solving.
  • Social Studies/Social Science:
      • Content: History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, and Social Science concepts.
      • Pedagogical Issues: Methods of teaching social studies, critical thinking, inquiry-based learning, evaluation techniques.

General Guidelines for Both Papers:

  • Minimum Qualifying Marks: Generally, 60% or above is required to qualify, but it may vary for different categories (SC/ST/OBC/PH).
  • Negative Marking: No negative marking for incorrect answers.
